We Closed Our Doors. We Opened Our Hearts. We Made an Impact!

By Jessica Dieken

For the past three years, we’ve worked with Otter Products to do something extraordinary. For a single day, Otter Products closes their doors so that employees all over the world can dig into their communities through hands-on volunteering and service. Everyone, from interns to executives, spend the day working alongside schools, students and nonprofits to help inspire students and grow our mission.

We call this day closed2open.

On this incredible day, Otter employees blanket communities in the three continents and nine countries: the United States and Canada; Cork, Ireland; the UK; Sweden; Spain; Germany; and Hong Kong. Working with some of our incredible partners, employees volunteer in classrooms, using their many talents to help organizations through strategic operation planning and encouraging students to be bold, be passionate and have fun.

This year nearly 900 Otter employees gave over 6,000 hours of volunteer time during this year’s closed2open events, globally, in support of the OtterCares mission. Additionally, this year’s impact extended beyond Otter Product employees. The Otter Shop in Fort Collins, Colo.,  engaged 41 businesses and welcomed a total of 133 non-Otter volunteers to build STEM Learning Kits with the nonprofit Resource Area for Teachers. Also, through an online activation, more than 700 OtterBox and LifeProof consumers pledged over 7,500 additional hours of volunteerism.

“We had a blast,” said Steven Jones, Senior Director of Sales for Otter Products. “[We had] a huge group of kids and they were all so engaged with the content we delivered.”

“We had a great experience at A Precious Child,” said Lisa Flint, Senior Channel Sales Manager for Otter Products. “They were extremely organized, informative and friendly. The place and what they all do is amazing. It was a great experience giving back to such a wonderful organization and working with fellow amazing Otters.”

“I just want to thank you all so much for sending out your amazing volunteers to us…,” said Sherry Legrand, STEAM Coordinator and Learning Technology Coach at Hygiene Elementary in Longmont, Colo. “The kids had a great time and I have heard so many positive comments from our teachers about how great they all were with our kids! We really appreciate your support of our school!”

This much-anticipated annual event has evolved into a global movement of change all thanks to the passionate employees at Otter Products and all of our incredible partners that helped make this day an HUGE success!
